Default Winter Projects and to-do 2017/2018

It is that time of year again... The last couple years, we have had a thread with our winter projects/todo's. I get a big kick (and some good ideas) out of the prior threads, so thought I would start another one for this winter.

Here is my list:
  • Full detail (already did vinyl) any good weather day. Its a great excuse to drag the boat home, do some driveway boating, have a cold beer, and listen to some tunes while cleaning her up for the spring lanuch.
  • Transom protection of some kind, like a transom pad... to protect the back of the boat from wayward surf boards. Have not been able to find one I like yet, and may wind up putting some clear bra film on it instead.
  • Spare prop... probably with just a little more bite than what I have today to see if I can get a little more speed without sacrificing grunt for surfing.
  • Down facing lights mounted on the tower. The interior lights look great when hanging out at dusk, but are really not quite enough light when cleaning out the boat after dark
  • Lights in rear compartments (with the ballast bags). Thinking of a couple of these, which run on batteries, require nothing more than a little heavy duty velcro.
  • MAYBE some underwater lights under the swim platform. Havent decided, and have severe reservations of drilling anything below the waterline on this new of a boat.

With my boat sitting on a lift 250 mile away my winter project is to drink scotch, dream about spring and wait. The scotch helps.

SeaDek makes transom protecting strips. I'm sure others do also. You can also use the clear 3M automotive paint protector film

I did LED lights in the engine compartment and ski lockers, they are nice also. Just tapped into the courtesy lights. wiring.

I have seen LED's mounted to the bottom of the platform that give off a nice glow while sitting still or at idle speeds.

Not much here...Change drive lube i put off like a Jim. Might need to think about replacing trailer tires. Its tough to bite that one when they appear to be mint shape after 8 years. but I know the drill on tire aging and all.

1. Pull a couple cushions out that need re-upholstered

2. Order a new fender for the side that was destroyed when I had a blow out also replace all four hubs and brakes.

3. Upgrade all the wiring in the boat for the speakers and subs.

4. Order new mooring covers

Just added gatorstep to my list for front and rear deck, as well as bow. The Malibu and Axis owners facebook page just put up a group buy... NICE.

I have a old boat to get ready to sell and a new boat to get ready to use.

Old boat:
New steering actuator
new Oil pressure gauge
new depth sounder gauge
Oil change
Lower unit gear oil
Clean and wax

New boat:
Minor gel coat work
Install transom speakers
Install amps
Install swimplatform
Clean and wax

I'm tired....

I was going to build my own camper enclosure and have been putting it off for a while. Maybe now is the time to tackle at least the windshield portion before the Chicago Loop Cruise this year.
