OK, couldn't wait till Spring. Spent New Years Day doing my new drone's inaugural flight. Had the height limit set at 30 meters and was just below that. Was flying it over my roof, the black one on the lower left. Our house backs to the woods, was trying to stay away from the trees. Very user friendly for my novice flying skills. Auto takeoff and auto return home features sure make life easy. Very overcast day, wished it was sunny for nicer pics.

Really? why? First off, that is a toy. You won't be very happy with the results. Poor camera, no gimbal, 10 min fly time.. = POS.

"buy it nice, or buy it twice".

You'll be a lot happier with a drone that takes better pictures, longer fly time, obstacle avoidance, gimbal camera.. and the list goes on.
Now that the new mavic is out, guys are dumping the older mavic's for cheap. If you really don't want to spend a grand, look into a used unit that already has the extra batteries and blades.

Got the 100 for just over $200, Cyber Monday special. Works fine for a newby like me. If it's too windy, the camera will be affected. Still looked cool to me. If it is a toy to some, that's fine. I'm just playing with it, anyway. Now if I was going to use it for anything business related or any professional photo shoots, I would have gotten something better. But then again, I'm no pro.....

I have no regrets about buying my Mavic. I don't see the point of buying a "starter" drone, and then upgrading.

Well, I for one have bought a few things that I have ended thinking I would get into and use which are now lost somewhere in the basement. Luckily, none of the items were the most expensive, just enough to see if I would like it. Maybe I have a little adult ADD and jump from one thing to another too quickly.

I guess I understand that point of view. But I also know that sometimes you lose interest because you (or I) buy something that doesn't give the best experience.

If you end up with a drone that is hard to fly, doesn't take good photos, is a pain to use, doesn't have enough flight time, all of those would make me less likely to fly.

Ha, I hear you Ryan. I think I already got that one with my credit card points. This one is a world of difference. Much easier to control, does alot on its own. Getting used to the flying part, still trying to figure out all of the camera angles. Whats freaking me out now are all the places you can't fly them. I was going to take it to Destin, but you can't fly it anywhere down there because of Eglin AFB.

The DJI app tells you (for the most part) where you can and can not fly.

Also look into Drone Buddy.
