Danny

I have this Makita and it is awesome!

I purchased it from Proper Auto Care.

I prefer a Random Orbital type buffer/polisher - Porter Cable 7424 is what I use. No worries of burning the gelcoat. But I'm a novice at polishing using machines. Just adjust pads and liquids for cutting power.

Random orbit will not remove heavy oxidation or scratches. They are essentially a waxer. Gelcoat is a very hard material, it takes alot to burn through, especially on a Crownline as the gelcoat is quite thick. Some boat manufacturers may be different, but i have performed lots of buffing and gelcoat repais on various Crownlines and have found the gel to be rather thick.

Default How to use?????

Now the next question... How do you use the buffers??? I just picked up a random orbital from Advanced Auto, and they said to just use it to remove the wax after applying and buffing by hand.... Kinda seems to defeat the purpose of a power buffer.. What type of pad do you apply with and what type do you buff / remove wax with??

I finally listened to Cory and got some pads. I had some oxidization, so got some wool cutting pads from properboatcare.com. I tested them out tonight and am impressed with the results tonight. Here's hoping it holds up!
